My March for Life Journey – 2025
March For Life 2025 – Suzanne Hout
Parliament Hill, Ottawa
On May 8th, I left Thunder Bay on Porter Airline to fly directly to Ottawa. (Flight PD 2350). My son-in-law picked me up from the airport and drove me to the Notre Dame Cathedral, across from the Art Gallery in Ottawa. The Cathedral was full.
Bishop offered a bilingual mass with over 15 priests co-celebrating. There were many students, and people from everywhere in Canada, including a few from the States. After mass, we walked to Parliament Hill. There, we met many interesting people, children, students, adults, priests, nuns, Ministers of all denominations, monks, and the list goes on. We were surrounded by approximately 200 police officers.
At 12h30, CLC President Jeff Gunnarson welcomed everyone to the Hill. Then we had a variety of speakers including Angelina Steenstra, Angelina Ireland, Knight of Columbus Grand Chief of Canada, Alex Schadenberg from Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, and many others. There wa a band who played music and tried to teach us a few songs.
At 13h30, we started our walk around the city blocks in front of the Parliament. We walked by the Justice Building of Ottawa, chanting about abortion has to go, stop the killing through MAID, Choose Life.
When we got back on Parliament Hill, we had a few testimonies from Silence No More. Very powerful when it comes from real people with real life trauma. That was the end of the activities on Parliament Hill. There were no incidences. The next activity was the Rose Dinner Gala at the Ottawa Conference & Event Centre on Coventry Road. There were also 25 exhibitions at the Centre for us to visit.
The supper started at 6:30 p.m. Debbie Duval and Margie Mountain, NMFL Chair welcomed us. Jef Gunnarson, National President Campaign Life Coalition, was our Master of Ceremonies. We started with National Anthem and opening prayers led by the Archbishop of Ottawa-Carleton. Then we enjoyed a wonderful and very tasty supper.
The keynote speaker was Emily Simpson Chapman. She is a wife, mother, and best-seller Catholic author of over a dozen books and studies. She extends abortion to the testing in laboratories. She also included test-tube babies for mothers who could not conceive naturally. I have a problem with that. But then, when I questioned it, it is because they discard the extra eggs. Of all the parents that I know of, that was never the case, all test tube eggs were reinserted in the Mother. But, they have a larger view than I do.
The National March for Life dedicated Carol Crosson (1963-2023) and Albertos Polizogopoulos (1982-2024) as the 2025 pro-life champions. They were two brilliant constitutional lawyers an advocacy for the pro-life movement.
On Friday, May 9th, there was the Save The Babies Leaders Summit. Josie Lukte and Ruth Robert were the organizers of this event. It started at 9 am with a complimentary breakfast. CLC President Jeff Gunnarson welcomed us. Then we saw a short video of The True North in a Post-ROE World put together by Dunnmedia & Entertainment. Kevin Dunn was recognized for all the work he does in and around pro-life. He was also responsible for reporting on the March on Parliament Hill. He is quite amazing. Then we had an election debriefing by Jack Fonseca (Campaign Life Coalition), Arpad Nagy (Campagne Québec-Vie), and Alex Schadenberg (Euthanasia LPrevention Coalition). This was followed by a firehose session: question and answers within a few minutes. It was very interesting. We broke for lunch and then we had a LEGAL Expert Panel composed of Hatim Kheir, Alan Honner and Phil Horgan.
Reminder that there will be another March For Life in Quebec City on May 31st. Alex Schadenburg, Executive Director for Euthanasia Prevention Coalition can be reached for more information on the Walk For Life Quebec happening on May 31st in front of the Legislation.
Points that were made or brought back to our attention….
Post-ROE generation refers to the generation born after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion in the United States.
PET, embracing Morgentaler’s work aimed at making abortion legal since 67/68. Post-ROE Generation started January 22, 1973 with legalized abortions. January 28, 1988 the law was stricken down. Continuing their evil work, the law came back in 1991 with Restriction on Abortion with bill C-43.
Pope Jean-Paul II said, “…so goes the family, so goes the world!”
We need to keep raising the issue and push for introduction to pro-life legislation. We need to fight until we can ban abortion. This group is fighting to push these films: Bella, Voiceless and Crescendo, along with a comprehensive study guide to be included in the Grade 9 to 11 curriculum. You can find these films at ROEcanadafilm.com/educational.
June 22, Dobbs’ decision overturned the constitutional right to abortion based on the Gestational Act (prohibit abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, except if mother’s life is in danger) and the fact that 95% of scientists agree that conception is the start of human life. It is recognized as a crude tool to correct a mistake from abortionists.
Alex Schadenberg mentioned Recommendation 429 and Recommendation 430. Recommendation 429 suggests that anti-abortion organizations should no longer be provided charitable status. Recommendation 430 proposes amending the Income Tax Act to remove the privileged status of “advancement of religion” as a charitable purpose. This will deprive the anti-abortion groups, pregnancy counselling groups and other related group from doing the work they do to save lives and support the vulnerable.
Alex Schadenberg (Executive Director 4 Euthanasia Prevention Coalition) talked about Bill C-7 and how United Nations also got involved. C-7 amends the Criminal Code and states it aims at the interest and values of suffering Canadians to balance the autonomy of individuals who are eligible to receive MAID, the protection of the vulnerable persons from being induced to end their life and the need to address suicide as a public health issue. Under the existing law, it had to be voluntary request, over the age of 18, and must give informed consent. C-7 wants to repeal the eligibility clause requiring that the person’s natural death has become reasonably foreseeable (Clause 1.1). It also wants to add the mental and physical disabilities, and the fact that a mature person can decide.
On March 21, 2025, United Nations asked the government to repeal track 2 of MAID. It is quite serious when UN needs to get involved. In 2024, there were 428 cases of non-compliance to kill the people under the umbrella of MAID.
LEGAL EXPERT PANEL
Hatim Kheir (Constitutional Laws) works with PPS (People Protective Services), Alan Honner is a civil and criminal lawyer talks about Encroachment on Free Speech, and Phil Horgan, Constitutional Freedom of Conscious speaks of Bubble Zone Law.
Hatim started by saying that they replaced the laboratory rats with lawyers, meaning that they will introduce legislation that needs to be challenged each time it has to do with human life. He spends most of his time on PPS, People Protective Services. He deals with abortion, MAID, jailed pro-lifers, and the list goes on. Our Charter of Rights (1982) states that our rights are not absolute. They have some reasonable limits justified by the government. It seems like any act of disapproval of abortion is against the law.
Alan finds himself defending the graphic images of fetus on billboards. The government would like all graphic images to be in an envelope with information on the envelope. This way, it is less offensive and only those who choose may open the envelope.
Phil deals with the Bubble Zone Law, properly referred to as the “Safe Access To Abortion Services Act” by the government. It prevents protestors to stay away from these clinics at least 50 meters. Father Tony was arrested in November 2018 on Bank Street, Ottawa while standing in front of the Morgentaler’s clinic and put in jail. Four years late, 2023, Father Toney’s charged were dropped. This is problematic as it also includes the Hospital where they perform abortions. The bubble can then be extended to 150 meters. On the other hand, 225 churches burnt and only 5 of them had someone charged.
Phil also works on aiming to remove the statement of DEI (diversity, equality, inclusion) / SEG from various reports. Advancement on DEI/SEG, during their 20 years of existence, caused a lot of our present challenges toward pro-lifers. They seem to say that a lot of DEI members are using the abortion clinic. Therefore, as being against abortions, we are against them.
